Dark mornings, darker evenings, and chilly gray days in between mean winter is nearing. Here are 3 small, easy actionable steps you can start implementing today to help combat the winter blues!
Vitamin D
With the days becoming shorter and cooler, naturally, we tend to go into hibernation mode. With that comes less sunlight exposure, and a lack of vitamin D. Upping your vitamin D around this time of year is critical, as it helps keep your immune system strong and enhances your mood and energy levels. Increasing your intake of foods in vitamin D (eggs, salmon, fortified yogurt, soy milk, etc.) and supplementing with vitamin D will help keep you feeling your best going into the winter season. Have a visit with your family physician to see where vitamin D levels are at.
Stay Active
The cooler temperatures are a great reason to exercise outdoors. Exercising outside is not only an incredible way to help boost your immune system but being out in nature can help boost your mental health as well. Some great ways to stay active this fall are hiking with friends or family, apple picking, or running through the trails.
Take time for self-care
Make it a priority to take time for yourself. Whether it’s 20 minutes to read at night, an evening walk alone after dinner, or a morning meditation, make it happen at least once a week.
